I’m an engineer by trade with over a decade of experience in various roles as a
software developer, data scientist and software test engineer.

I also am a passionate and dedicated poker player, spending my free time competing in poker tournaments (and occasionally cash games) both live and online.

The highlights of my poker career include a 2nd place finish in a WSOP Online bracelet event and multiple WSOP Circuit final tables.

Like many others, I first started playing regularly during the Moneymaker boom of the mid-2000s and have seen the game evolve from reading each other’s souls and occasionally applying some pot odds and math to GTO charts, equilibrium strategies, blockers, reverse blockers, ICM, bounty factor…

If the terms I just listed sound completely foreign or something you might have vaguely heard of before – Great, you’re in the right place.

If you know exactly what a GTO chart is, but don’t know why the solver wants to jam A5s all the time – or perhaps, why you shouldn’t, given the full context of the situation – Great, you’re also in the right place.

I don’t want to teach you to memorize a chart. I want to do better than that – I want you to understand the underlying theories of poker so well that you don’t need a chart.

Yes, there are a lot of charts on this site – But that’s not the point of this site. I want you to learn poker so thoroughly that you don’t need a chart. Or know when to ignore the chart to make the right play.

TheoriesOfPoker.com is a place where I apply my skills as an engineer and experienced poker player to open source my own research and thoughts on poker – My own theories of poker.

But I firmly believe that there is no one correct answer to playing a hand of poker. So I hope TheoriesOfPoker.com helps you to come up with your own theories of poker.

I encourage you to enjoy the journey and don’t memorize charts – Learn how to derive the charts. Learn what the charts are telling you about the game. Build the skyscraper of understanding.
